Episode 83: PT3 Faith's MINI-Series: From Fear To Peace: Faith, Identity, And Calling

FBC Boerne Missions Season 5 Episode 83

Send us a text

What if joy isn’t a reward at the finish line but a sign you’re already on the right path? We sit down with our friend Faith, a teenager learning to trade fear for peace and tight control for open hands, and watch how Scripture, mentors, and missions weave into a coherent, hope-filled life. This isn’t theory. It’s a bus ride to the airport with a brave smile, Psalm 23 spoken over a nervous commute, and a simple listening exercise that surfaces a childhood memory bursting with joy—and a nudge about the future.

We unpack how identity in Christ reframes pressure, how Philippians 4 can quiet the mind when anxiety spikes, and how James 1 turns trials into training for steadfastness. Faith shares the low-tech habits that made her love the Bible: color-coding God’s character, chasing cross-references through Revelation, and letting the Word interpret her world. We talk about the power of mentors when a parent’s voice lands too close to home, and how families can set intention, pray specifically, and invite trusted guides to speak into their kids’ lives. The result is a network of voices helping young people hear the one Voice that matters most.

From Mexico to the Middle East, Faith’s story highlights a clear, humble question: if I can go, why wouldn’t I? But going is only one expression of mission. We explore the many ways to participate—praying, giving, welcoming, sending—and why an open-handed posture keeps us responsive when plans shift at the last minute. If you’ve been wrestling with purpose, consider this a practical roadmap: notice where joy appears in obedience, answer fear with Scripture, and take the next step with a steady heart. If this conversation encouraged you, follow the show, share it with a friend who needs courage today, and leave a review to help others find these stories of faith, identity, and mission.

SPEAKER_03:

Hey, this is Britney with FBC's Sew That Missions Podcast, and I'm really excited for you. We have part three with faith today.

SPEAKER_00:

Welcome to FBC Missions Sew That Podcast. It is an encouraging place to hear how God is working in and around us. We know that He blesses His people so that they can bless the world around them. Join us as we discuss how to join God and all that He is doing. Why is God working in our life, church, and community? It's so that through us the world will know that He is needed.

SPEAKER_03:

Okay, well, hello listeners. Again, this is Brittany, and I'm so excited you are joining us for part three on the So That Missions podcast with my dear, dear friend and sister in Christ, Faye. Hey, hey, Faye. Hey.

SPEAKER_02:

I'm just gonna warn you guys if Britney asks you to come on a podcast, be careful. It might turn into three. I'm 11. I'm just kidding. I've hate love this time.

SPEAKER_03:

Have you have you ever read that book? Um, if you give a mouse um a whatever, a muffin or I have.

SPEAKER_02:

Yeah. If you give a mouse like a cookie, yeah, it's a cookie. If you give a mouse a milk.

SPEAKER_03:

Well then I think they did a muffin. What happens if you give a mouse a whatever?

SPEAKER_02:

A cookie, they like key bass. Then they want a glass of milk. Yeah, then they want a glass of milk, and then it turns into like giving them clothing. So if you ask you on a podcast, it turns into three.

SPEAKER_03:

There are stories to tell. And that is why we are back here for part three. But also just um I think, listeners, if you have not had an opportunity to hear the first part one and part two of our podcast with Faith, you will be immensely blessed. Now, I know Faith is probably over there going, Brittany, I don't like it when you say that because Faith has such a sweetheart. She wants the Lord to get all the glory. She's told me that before. But we are all one body and we all play a part in Faith's part, at least from my perspective as a person in their fourth decade of life. I will say that I've just been super inspired and encouraged by her faith and what the Lord is doing in her life. And so, Faith, are you okay with what I just said?

SPEAKER_02:

Yes, because you were like giving the glory back to God.

SPEAKER_03:

Okay. Check check. That's fine. Um, so as we had, you know, finished these, the first two podcasts, there was just some some things lingering for both Faith and I. And so I, you know, if you give a mouse a cookie, I was like, Faith, what if we did number three? And Chad gave us the thumbs up. So here we are.

SPEAKER_02:

Yep. Yep. I was not expecting it. Well, I mean, honestly, I probably should have been. Like, I don't know.

SPEAKER_03:

You should have been what? Expecting it. Oh, yeah, probably. Yeah.

SPEAKER_02:

Because one turned into two, and now two turned into three. But maybe we can wrap up everything.

SPEAKER_03:

And and what's so funny about this is originally when I asked Faith, because when I first started talking to Faith, she had um already taken perspectives class. So I mean, we could have spoken about that. She had already gone on two mission trips, so like we could have spoken about that. Yeah. Um, she had already committed to going to um the Middle East as a teenager. Like, who does that? And then we could have talked about that. And she's like, um, maybe after I get back from the Middle East, maybe then we can do a podcast. Yeah. And so honestly, not really my podcast.

SPEAKER_02:

I didn't feel like I was gonna have anything to talk about.

SPEAKER_03:

You're so right. You're so right. So then we no, so then we just so then we get her in there, and there's so many cool things. So anyway, thank you, Faith. And so today, like where we really wanted to land is we've we've talked about we she shared her story so beautifully in the first episode, and then we talked about her trips to Mexico, and then we talked about some of the studies that Faith and I have been doing with our sweet friend Kelsey. So back to the theme of if you give a mouse, like we're gonna try to get Kelsey in here one day, too.

SPEAKER_02:

Yeah, she's yeah, she's gonna come in here later. So we're gonna say it on this, so she has to come.

SPEAKER_03:

And and and Faith is taking after me. And so with this this episode, um, oh, then in the second episode, yeah, we talked about identity and then even her trip to the Middle East, and that was so powerful how the Lord really spoke to you through Philippians 4, verses 6 through 7, and what he showed you. And so in my mind, I was like, man, so you have a teenager who's already gone on three mission trips. And even in the first episode, we talked about being like you you struggled to surrender your life to the Lord because you were worried about like missing out on things and even what people would think. And so it's like here you are, and you've been learning how at a very young age to listen to God. And you know, Faith, I would just say for parents, because I'm a parent, to know, like to have your child be in a place of learning their true identity before they leave a parent's home is really cool. That is my mission as a mom. I want now. I mean, it's kind of sped up for me because of the studies you and I have been doing in Kelsey. But can you just talk a little bit about your identity not being in the world? Like, what is the Lord highlighting for you right now as I am as I as I talk about like my hope as a parent and what I see in you and how I'm inspired, inspired by that in you. And I know that there's gonna be other parents listening to this going, man, I like I want that for my children.

SPEAKER_02:

Yeah.

SPEAKER_03:

Well, I mean, first of all, I think like God has just orchestrated all of it. You know what's so cool about that? Yeah, like if I say to if I say right now, I want that for my children, imagine what God says he wants for his children.

SPEAKER_02:

Yeah.

SPEAKER_03:

Ah.

SPEAKER_02:

Then like you're like your will is connected with God's.

SPEAKER_03:

Anyway, so as a parent, yeah, yeah, as a parent. Yeah, it is. So what's he highlighting for you right now?

SPEAKER_02:

I think like so. I had a friend tell me on like my upcoming trip to uh Iraq, or like the trip that I went on to Iraq. Oh, the Middle East. The Middle East.

SPEAKER_03:

Yeah, we've said Middle East, we've said Iraq, interchangeable, it's cool.

SPEAKER_02:

Um I had a friend tell me, like, I like just feel like there's an overwhelming joy that like like God wants you to have joy in this trip, and said like, like she told me that before she left, and then she like said, Can you sometimes tell you that someone told me that like God had been highlighting like for her joy for that for me? For me, for me, yeah. Wow, yeah.

SPEAKER_03:

Um was it can I ask the friend, were they younger or they be careful because am I young, am I old, what am I, you know? They had just graduated and the Lord highlighted that for them. Yeah, for you. Yes, so cool. Yeah, okay.

SPEAKER_02:

So she had told me that. Um, and then like going into it, I like first of all getting on the bus from our church, that was like it was a little hard. It was a big step of faith, and I had to like get over some fears.

SPEAKER_03:

Yeah.

SPEAKER_02:

But even like within like we had to drive about an hour and a half to get to the airport, yeah. And even just on the bus, we were like talking about it, and I could feel that joy. Like I um just like a big smile like came on my face, and like I was so excited. And then this morning, you were just talking about something that was like really cool.

SPEAKER_03:

Yeah, we're gonna go there. I think we gotta go there. I think so. But before we go there, okay, so listeners, just I want you to just imagine this. Um, it was right out a month ago on a Tuesday, and there was our sweet friend Faith and a group of folks from our church, and then some other people, the sending team, circled out in the parking lot praying over everyone. And Faith was there with her, two amazing parents. And they're getting on a bus, and here goes Faith. And I'm just thinking about I remember her parents, and I took a picture of her and her parents, and I just I remember thinking, man, what would it be like to be sending your beautiful daughter on a bus to the Middle East? And I mean, I just remember that like was awesome. And that's even a lot to wrap your head around as a Christian. But I will just say, if you even hear that and fear pops into your head, like that's not from the Lord. Um, we want to fear him, but not fear walk stepping out in faith, yeah, like Faith did to get on that bus. And so I just just listeners, I just I invite you to pause and and consider what that would be like as a parent. And I would imagine Faith's parents had, um, just because I know them, I mean, of course, they want their daughter to come back, but I also just would have imagined that they just felt incredibly excited and joyful and proud. And I think that's what the Lord would feel too. If he watches us or he when he sees us, you know, stepping out in faith for his kingdom, uh what he must feel and what he must think, yeah, and how excited he must be for the the impact.

SPEAKER_02:

That's kind of making me think of like fear, like oftentimes that is what Satan will use. And like, I don't know, whenever you're fearful about something, maybe think about that.

SPEAKER_03:

Tell me more. That's good.

SPEAKER_02:

Like I pardon me, like some of my thoughts were like you could like not go. Like you could find a way to get out of this. Um but like that was what God had in store for me.

SPEAKER_03:

When I was going on um my the so I've been on two mission trips, and the second one was to Malawi, Africa. And oh my gosh, bless Kelly Nelson. She's if you haven't heard her podcast, you you listeners go back and hear her incredible story and how the Lord has used her in Malawi Africa. But I tried lots of ways to wiggle out of that trip. And there were so many things, like I mean, I almost I don't know if you felt like this, Faith, but like I kind of almost felt like I was a target and I was dodging arrows. Like there were so many things, so many shots that were coming my way that were creating significant fear, like down to my toes.

SPEAKER_02:

Yeah, I think like leading up to it, I kind of didn't think about it a lot, and so it didn't feel real until like the Sunday before. I remember there was like yeah, there was a lot of things that had all kind of like added up and like made me start thinking about it and like made me fearful. Yeah, and that is not from the Lord, yeah, yeah, but it was definitely good to realize like that's there and like I don't know, it was good to work through it.

SPEAKER_03:

Well, and I think I think without that, uh what he highlighted for you with Philippians four, six and seven of of um peace, yeah. I think without that fear you wouldn't have appreciated the peace quite as much. Is that possible? Oh, 100%.

SPEAKER_02:

Yeah, yeah.

SPEAKER_03:

Yeah. So, you know, I think that's why in James chapter one, verses two, three, and four, it talks about like um, man, my brain is tricky this morning, but I mean we want to persevere through the trials, yeah, because it's in that that we can feel the other side. And yeah, am I making sense with that?

SPEAKER_02:

No, it does. That's like bringing up another like dream that I kind of had more recently about like in it there was some type of persecution. And I don't remember if I already mentioned this in one of the other podcasts. So I feel bad.

SPEAKER_03:

But I don't I don't okay. Go ahead.

SPEAKER_02:

Um, but like in that it was like in my dream, I was just like constantly praying and like it was just like showing me like how important it is to seek the Lord and like to be in that like constant like prayer. Trust me. Especially, yeah, especially when it's like a hard time.

SPEAKER_03:

Man, we're so blessed because like even right now I'm thinking about our sisters and brothers in the world who don't have the Bible on their phone. So I like pull up my Bible on my phone right now and it's James chapter one. I'm just gonna read this. Um, count it all joy, my brothers, uh, when you meet trials of various kinds, for you know that the testing of your faith produces steadfastness. And let steadfastness have its full effect that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing. If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask God who gives generously to all without reproach, and it will be given by him. But let him ask in faith, with no doubting. For the one who doubts is like a wave of the sea that is driven and tossed by the wind. For that person must not suppose that he will receive anything from the Lord. He is a double-minded man, unstable in all his ways.

unknown:

Yeah.

SPEAKER_02:

I love scripture so much. Like there's so many things like living in it, and like you can like I don't know.

SPEAKER_03:

Yeah. How do you study scripture? Like you're, I mean, you're like I've said multiple times, you're a teenager and you're saying, I love scripture. Can you tell us a little bit about how you've come to that love um and what that looks like for you?

SPEAKER_02:

Yeah. Um how I study it, I recently like got highlighters and like each one has like a meaning. And so like the color has a meaning. You are so cool. Well, I did it because I thought it was cool. That's why I did it.

SPEAKER_03:

I love I can like totally just have a field trip in an office supply store and get excited.

SPEAKER_02:

Oh my gosh. I want my house to look like that. If you could have everything, anyways.

SPEAKER_03:

So you highlight in your I highlight in my yeah, okay.

SPEAKER_02:

And that like recently has brought me like a lot of joy because I'm like, I'm looking for the list of things that I've written down and I'm like, what is this? And then I'm like, I gotta use a highlighter.

SPEAKER_03:

Okay, so like give us an example of something you would highlight and the color it would be because it applies.

SPEAKER_02:

Okay. Um, I like one of the things I highlight is like I have character of God, and that's like a gold yellow, because I'm like royal. Like, I don't know if that makes sense. Shining bright. Yes, yeah. Um and then another one I have is like cross-reference, and I did it. This is actually kind of funny. I did it like one of the colors I didn't really like because I was like, there's I'm probably not gonna use it that much. Yeah, I was wrong. What color is it? It's like a very light pink. It's like a highlighter pink. And I was like, I didn't want to. I'm not getting into that one. Yeah. And no.

SPEAKER_03:

What does it signify?

SPEAKER_02:

What does it signify? Cross-references. Oh, okay. So, like where scripture is mentioned. And so I and I'm going through Revelations right now, and I'm like, yeah, I was wrong.

SPEAKER_03:

There's a lot of cross-reference in Revelation. A lot of cross-reference. You're using a lot of pink. A lot of pink. Oh my goodness. Yeah. That is so funny, faith. Okay, so how in the world did you get there? Like, I mean, I highlight in my Bible and I write in my Bible, but I did not start that. I don't know if I was opening my Bible when I was 17.

SPEAKER_02:

I so like the thing that came up when you were asking me, like, how, like, how have I become to love like the Bible so much? Yeah. Is I used to have a job in like with um a fast food place, and I'm not gonna say it because I feel bad. Um, it was not the best job. And going there, like just driving there, it was like a 30-minute drive. I would get so anxious that I was gonna be late, even if I was leaving like 30 minutes early. Like, just like so anxious, and that was like so consuming. And what I did was I memorized Psalm 23, and I would say that, and the second I would start saying that, like that fear would leave me. Like, just like reciting the scripture.

SPEAKER_03:

I'm not gonna sing that song because I'm not a good singer, but you know that song by Leanna Crawford? I don't know.

SPEAKER_02:

Oh, I do know what you do, I do.

SPEAKER_03:

And say if not, I'll send it to you. It's so beautiful. Yeah, but you would I listen to that song. So you would recite Psalm 23.

SPEAKER_02:

Uh yeah, I would say Psalm 23, and I would just like say it over and over and over and over again. Yeah, I can. Um, the Lord is my shepherd, I lack nothing. He makes me lie down in green pastures, he leads me beside still waters, he guides me along the right path.

SPEAKER_03:

Wait, wait, hang on, hang on. Let's bless our listeners. Let's slow down, okay? Okay. You know, so we were talking about slowing down earlier because Jesus walked slow. So, listeners, unless you're driving, I invite you to pause right now and close your eyes and take a deep inhale and just take an inhale deep enough that your belly goes out. So I used to be a a counselor and I would help people with this, but inhale so that your belly goes out. Exhale, release it, and just like feel the difference in your body and then keep doing that. And faith, will you share Psalm 23?

SPEAKER_02:

Yeah. The Lord is my shepherd, I lack nothing. He makes me lie down in green pastures, he leads me beside still waters, he guides me along the right paths for his name's sake. Even though I walk through the darkest valley, I will fear no evil, for you are with me. Your rod and your staff, they comfort me. You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies, you anoint my head with oils, my cup overflows. Surely your goodness and mercy will follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever.

SPEAKER_03:

Oh my goodness. Thank you. You're welcome. What a blessing. Yeah. Um and listener, I hope that you noticed how amazing you felt. But you know, possibly the Lord spoke to you through images, and possibly you just felt his presence, but I felt both. Okay. So thank you for that, faith. So how did you like that experience? Man, that experience you just shared of going to work and the anxiety that you were feeling, and how you relied on the word, not something else, not food, yeah, not people, not whatever. You relied on the word, capital W, the word. And that brought you back to peace. So let's say there's a parent who's in her late 40s and she has three young children, and she's like, Oh, I want that for my kids. What advice do you have for parents?

SPEAKER_02:

Um, I don't know. I feel like it's it's so hard when you're a parent because like I know this from experience, your kid doesn't really. It's hard for your kids to take what you say seriously. And like what's really like even going into like all of the identity stuff, my dad was like, you have to read this book. And I was like, I don't know. And so he was like, I'm gonna tell Britney about it. She'll make you read it. And he kept bugging me and bugging me.

SPEAKER_03:

He said, She'll make you read it. Yep. Oh, I'm gonna talk to him. Oh boy. Um I mean, it really does take a community.

SPEAKER_02:

Yeah, yeah. But so I think it's really important to have somebody that like a mentor for your children. Yeah. And like to have somebody that they can go to. Because it's so hard being a parent to like we'll get them to listen to that.

SPEAKER_03:

I'll just be real and be like the thing about it, my husband and I were just talking about this the other day. So like he told me that sometimes when I'm talking to Jesus to my children, that he can almost see them rolling their eyes. And I'm like, well, yeah, that's because I love Jesus and I want to be like Jesus, but I don't always act like Jesus. And so they hear me talking about Jesus, but they see how I act. And it's like, oh snap.

SPEAKER_02:

Yeah.

SPEAKER_03:

Is that the same? Yeah.

SPEAKER_02:

I mean, like I think, yeah, that's why you need to have somebody that's like outside. And it's just different when you're not the parent.

SPEAKER_03:

Yeah. I mean, like, I mess up.

SPEAKER_02:

Yeah. And I which the person that's going to be mentoring your child is going to mess up too.

SPEAKER_03:

Yeah.

SPEAKER_02:

But you don't always see that.

SPEAKER_03:

It's kind of like social media. Yeah. You don't always see it. You don't always see it.

SPEAKER_02:

Or they just have like a different opinion on their mentor messing up and they're like, oh, she's just a human. Whereas it's your parent and you're like, uh, yeah.

SPEAKER_03:

Yeah. So that's a gold nugget right there. So how do you like, I mean, how do you find a mentor, right? Like, how does a parent find a mentor for their kid?

SPEAKER_02:

I know, like, with our church, we have the real life mentor ship. And like I just recently signed up for that. Yeah. Um, and then I think you just have to be intentional about looking for it because like God has like if you are seeking that, yeah, like the scripture verse, like in Matthew's coming up where it says like seek and you'll find. Like, and it will be given. Yeah. Yeah. If you're seeking that, then like God has a person for it.

SPEAKER_03:

So for parents, we would just say, I would say, just basically, this is how I work, faith. Like, I need like a list or like I'm gonna make a way to remember it. But basically, what I hear you saying is number one, as a parent, set your intention for your children and what you hope for them. And then the second thing would be to pray.

SPEAKER_02:

Yeah.

SPEAKER_03:

Um, and then the third thing would be to just really kind of look at what are you exposing them to? Where are you offering them opportunities? And then just see what is accessible within that. And then going back to step one, you're being intentional, you're praying, you're providing opportunity.

SPEAKER_02:

Yeah. Is that yeah, is that good parenting advice? That's that sounds great.

SPEAKER_03:

No, I'm not a parent, but that sounds great to me.

SPEAKER_02:

That's what your parents do, right? And I'd also say, like, if you're thinking about mentoring, or like you're like, oh, I have nothing to share. Like, God can use that. And like, I'm gonna give a little shout out to Sloane. I I have gotten to mentor her a little bit. I but in that I felt like I am not good enough. Like, I how am I gonna like say any of this?

SPEAKER_03:

But then like You only have to be like one step ahead or just walking beside.

SPEAKER_02:

Yeah, she is like she shared with me that it has been like an encouragement and just like getting to like hang out with her has just it's brought me so much joy.

SPEAKER_03:

So like Joy, we gotta get back to joy, right?

SPEAKER_02:

Back to joy, yeah.

SPEAKER_03:

So for those of you, um, so Sloane is Kelsey's daughter, Kelsey is Faith's real life mentor, right? Yeah, so it's like a little circle. It's like it's it's it is a circle. So when we walked into the studio this morning, um I y'all, if you go back to the second episode, so again a plug for the second episode, you'll hear how Faith and Kelsey and I have just become sweet sisters in Christ. And even though we are three decades represented, we are just we're tight. Yeah. And I love them so much. So um we get together, we've been studying a book by Jamie Winship called um Live what is it? Living Fearless. Thank you. Yeah. And I was I was studying early, early this morning, and I nearly texted both of them like in the wee hour, well, before 6 a.m. But I was like, nope, I'm not gonna do it. But I was so excited about what I was learning. And so I came into the studio and I was like bursting and so joy has been really a theme. And I hope I hope you listeners have felt our joy as we talk about the Lord and even how to lead your children to the Lord and even missions, which we'll we'll tie it up with that part of just how the Lord has called you to missions. But I was like, okay, Faith, I want to do this exercise. And and and you know, Faith already knows, oh, here comes Britney. What does she have for me today? But because I'm pretty bold and I love, yeah, jumping out there. But so I was like, okay, Faith, just go with me. And so I said to her, I was like, Faith, I want you to just like um this was an exercise from the book I'm reading from the book that I was just talking about.

SPEAKER_02:

Yeah, and I don't know if you're gonna actually like walk through it, but if you guys are listening, like I would like actually do it.

SPEAKER_03:

Yeah?

SPEAKER_02:

Oh yeah, yeah, actually do it.

SPEAKER_03:

Yeah, actually do it. Cause like it was really cool. It is really cool. And it, I mean, and I guess preface it too with like, um, Faith hasn't done a ton of work in hearing God's voice, but it's happened rather quickly as we've done this study.

SPEAKER_02:

Yes, yeah, it goes back to like the seeking.

SPEAKER_03:

I have I mean, I'm older, so I I have a lot more to I'm gonna just say undo. I've done a lot of things for hearing the Lord's voice, but so Faith has done a little and she's already progressed this far. So it's super cool. So I I was like, okay, Faith, I want you to just ask the Lord to bring to mind a time in your life as a child that you can remember when he was there with you. Is that what I asked you?

SPEAKER_02:

Yeah, that's what you asked me.

SPEAKER_03:

So just you know, just pause for a moment, ask the Lord to highlight a time in your life as a child when he was right there with you. And what did you tell me?

SPEAKER_02:

I told you I was like racing my brothers like up the hill, and it's it's it's hard to explain. So I'll just say like something it's like kind of like a bike.

SPEAKER_03:

This image just came straight into your mind.

SPEAKER_02:

Before you even started talking, like the minute you mentioned like child, I was like it came into your head.

SPEAKER_03:

Yeah, yeah.

SPEAKER_02:

Um, and like on the way like down the hill, I like was winning in the race, and so I just like that sparkling when you said you were beating your brothers. And I know I know one of her brothers, so I'm like ha ha well it was like the younger ones, and I I don't know, there I just said like there was like I had a lot of joy. Oh that's what I said.

SPEAKER_03:

Yeah, that's cute. I like that. So you had a lot of joy, yes. So um the Lord highlighted, he brought to mind this um experience and he and he highlighted that, and then I and then I said, What do you think he wants you to know from that? Is that is that what I'm asking? That's what you said. Okay, so what do you think he wants you to know about that that story he highlighted?

SPEAKER_02:

And I said, like, I think he wants me to have joy like in my future and going forward, which like I was just talking about this this morning with another group that I meet with, and I was talking about how like I'm stressed about my future. And so yeah, I was like, I'm glad you didn't text it this morning because I feel like God was using that for you to like have a conversation to where it actually impacted me versus like I mean not that like you texting wouldn't, but this had like a bigger impact.

SPEAKER_03:

The Lord is so generous like that, yeah. The way he teased things up for us. Yeah, isn't it awesome?

SPEAKER_02:

Yeah, it's all like a a thousand things coming back together.

SPEAKER_03:

Yeah. Uh a few weeks ago, Pastor Jason um uh in his sermon, I can't remember who he was quoting, but he said, the Lord is always doing ten thousand things, but we can see three. Yeah. And if you're me, half of one. Yeah, I love it. Well, so that theme of joy, you've heard that all throughout this episode with faith. And I think that's the thing for all of us to really keep in mind is is we all have the same purpose. Our purpose is to make his name known to all nations, right, Faith?

SPEAKER_02:

Yeah, which I really liked what you shared. Which about like what you felt God was showing you with that? I feel like that kind of goes into it. Like with the story, like how you just had me ask, like, what did God bring to mind with you as a child? That was really cool.

SPEAKER_03:

But tell me more about that, like how it ties in with our purpose and like or were you gonna say something? Like yours. With what mine is. Yeah, it is so cool. Did you were you thinking I should share more about that? What was there something?

SPEAKER_02:

I mean, it was really cool. Okay, how you're like making your baby now. I just feel bad. You're talking all about me, and I'm like, you have such a cool story too. Well someone needs to, someone needs to hear from like I don't know, someone needs to interview you.

SPEAKER_03:

Yeah. Oh, that's funny. Yeah, I had shared, I had shared with Faith what the Lord highlighted for me this morning. And it was, it was, it was really cool. And I I I yes, but uh this is about you today. No, it's good. Um, but that's the thing, like all of our purpose is the same. And a lot of times we get in this like frenzy of trying to figure out our purpose. It's not that hard. Our purpose is to glorify him, make his name known to all nations. Yeah. But within our purpose, we all have unique little fingerprints of God stamped on us. That's our unique way to do that.

SPEAKER_02:

Yeah.

SPEAKER_03:

And when I think back about this word joy for you, Faith, and I think of what you've shared with your trip to Mexico and the joy.

SPEAKER_02:

Yeah. Well, after like talking over all of it, yeah, I'm seeing like all of like the little spots in my life, or like where like there's been so much joy.

SPEAKER_03:

And so I'm looking back. Yeah. And so is it even safe to say, like, if you're trying to find like your way to impact his kingdom, your way to live in his purpose, do you think it's safe to say that when you're experiencing joy, you're gonna know that you know that you know that you're doing what he wants you to do?

SPEAKER_02:

I think so. It's highlighted. I don't know. It's been highlighted a lot. I'm very hesitant to be like, this is it. But like I don't know with how many times it's been highlighted.

SPEAKER_03:

Something you can keep asking him about.

SPEAKER_02:

Yeah, definitely.

SPEAKER_03:

That is so cool. Yeah. So, Faith, as we wrap it up, I love that we've done this three times. I just wanted to do it one time. God had different plans, right? As we wrap this up and you think about like being called to missions already at such a young age, what's coming to mind and why you've been called to missions or what you're excited about with missions or just, you know, anything, since this is the Sew That Missions podcast.

SPEAKER_02:

Yeah. Um, I think like I kind of already shared that, whereas like I like hearing about how many people are lost and don't have that hope. And I'm at a place where I can go. Like I have been blessed with after my like job that I was sharing where I had to recite scripture going in, yeah. I um like fasted and prayed for a week, and then at the end of the week, I had a new job opportunity lined up and like I had an interview, and like so. I have been blessed with a amazing boss who has just been so flexible. And she is amazing, yeah, she's amazing. Um, and so I forgot where I was going with that.

SPEAKER_03:

Uh well, I was just asking you like why missions for you.

SPEAKER_02:

Oh, yeah.

SPEAKER_03:

And you said, I mean, you were just saying how you had fasted and prayed, and he led you to this job, and that you have a heart for people who've never heard his name.

SPEAKER_02:

Yes, yeah. So um, just like this job has been a blessing to where my boss has been like, Yes, I completely understand. Like, I got back and it's probably like four days after I got back. I was asking her about another mission trip and taking off more time. And I've just been blessed with like her being 100% flexible and being like, Yes, you like like that is what you were you feel called, like that's what you feel like God's calling you to. Um, and so like that's been a blessing, and then just that's what I was saying. I was saying, like, God has just really made it to where I can go. And if I can, like, why wouldn't I? Which I know I already shared. I think you already shared that.

SPEAKER_03:

That's so cool. If I can, why wouldn't I? And it doesn't always look like going. Um, but I mean he's really clear in the Great Commission.

SPEAKER_02:

Yeah, well, and I have like like I need to be very careful about having an open hand in all of my like future plans.

SPEAKER_03:

Yeah. Because like what do you mean by open hand?

SPEAKER_02:

Like being like, okay, this is kind of what I'm imagining. Like, I might go do this with a ministry where I'm gone. But also, like I've like going on mission trips, things change the day of. Like things change like 30 minutes before. And so it just show like you just need to be willing to not hold on so tight and to be like, no, this was my plan. Yeah, that's what I'd say. So like having an open hand. Um when you have an open hand face. Do you have joy? Yeah, I mean, because it's like God's plan is so much better, and having an open hand leads me into God's plan. I love it.

SPEAKER_03:

So we could uh wrap up with this that you know, anytime we find ourselves striving and straining and stressing, and we're just like holding on to the steering wheel, right, with white knuckles. Yeah, it probably means it's time to slow down, take a breath, don't let go of your hands on the steering wheel if you're actually driving and open those eyes and say, Lord, what would you say to him?

SPEAKER_02:

I think like they're like I have before prayed, like God, like I am open to your plan. Like your way is better. Um and just like I don't know, let go of that control and give him like your full trust.

SPEAKER_03:

Let go of that control and give him your full trust. And if you could see the joy on her face right now, Faith, I love you.

SPEAKER_02:

I love you. It's yeah, I like I can say all of these things, but it's still like something like I'm gonna do it. It's still a work in progress. Yeah, still a work in progress. Absolutely.

SPEAKER_03:

Oh my stars for sure. But if we can if we can just aim to be one percent better, all for him. Yeah. Okay. Well, we will wrap it up. Um, this is the the end of this series, I'm thinking. I think, unless you drag me in here for another one. Well, I think I will have you in here for another one, but I don't know if it'll be a part four.

unknown:

Okay.

SPEAKER_03:

It'll maybe just be a new start.

SPEAKER_02:

But I will just say, like, going into each episode, I'm like, how I have no idea what we're gonna talk about. Yeah. It is so fun just having like God lead the conversation and like being in the flow with our hands wide open.

SPEAKER_03:

Yes. Yeah.

SPEAKER_02:

Cause like we've come in here each time and we've prayed before, and each time, even when you hit record, I'm like, what am I gonna say? But God like brings it all up.

SPEAKER_03:

And here we are, 34 minutes later. Yes. Oh my goodness. Well, thank you, listeners, so much for um taking some time to learn a little bit more about God's kingdom. Um he surely he will use it. And if you have any questions, if you need any help, if you need to sort through some things, just reach out to folks at the church. This is a thriving, beautiful community here at FBC where Jesus is alive and present, and there's so much goodness going on. And faith, I thank you so very much for inspiring us. I thank you so very much. Um, actually, I thank God how he has turned your heart towards him and you have obeyed.

SPEAKER_01:

Yeah.

SPEAKER_03:

Well done.

SPEAKER_02:

Thank you.

SPEAKER_03:

You're welcome. Anything else you want to say?

SPEAKER_02:

Um, I think that's all. I mean, I'm sure if we like started recording another one, God would bring up so many more things.

SPEAKER_03:

But you feel good about ending this one? I think so. Okay.

SPEAKER_01:

Yeah.

SPEAKER_03:

All right. Well, I love you, Benches. I appreciate the time with you. I thank the Lord for this sweet gift. And listeners, again, if you need anything in terms of understanding missions or what we've unpacked, reach out. And I just hope this finds you having a really incredible day. And let's just all go forth with the confidence that when we open our hands and we trust in him, there is joy to be missing.

SPEAKER_00:

We are so thankful that you joined our podcast today. We would love to hear any feedback you may have for us.
